Why Work with BOLD & GOLD?

People often say the best part of working with BOLD & GOLD is being part of a program that is truly making a difference in the lives of young people. In addition, the community of folks supporting the experience of the youth in this beautiful area is second to none. Yet, leading overnight programs for teens can be physically and emotionally challenging. That is why BOLD & GOLD is committed to improving the staff experience through feedback and open communication.

Benefits

In addition to the benefits listed above BOLD & GOLD also provides the following:

  • Individual membership to the YMCA of Greater Seattle.

  • Free access to mental health resources during employment.

  • Rapidly accruing paid time off (PTO) to use if sickness or circumstances prevent you from working a scheduled day.

  • Subsidized ORCA Transit Pass which allows for free unlimited use of public transit within the Greater Seattle area.

  • During the summer we provide a 10-day paid training period and professional development sessions each week

Wilderness First Responder Incentive

BOLD and GOLD recognizes that the cost and time commitment of receiving a Wilderness First Responder Certification is a barrier to many staff in the outdoor industry. To support staff in obtaining their Wilderness First Responder certification the Y is providing the following incentive for 2025.

BOLD & GOLD seasonal-exempt staff hired and scheduled for the 2025 summer season will be eligible to have 50% of their Wilderness First Responder training fee* reimbursed by the Y. To qualify for the bonus, employees must meet ALL the following criteria:

  • Successfully complete a Wilderness First Responder training** between January 1 and June 15, 2025;

  • Complete BOLD & GOLD Summer 2025 All Staff Training;

  • Work for a minimum of 32 days during the summer 2025 season, this does not include staff training time;***

  • Employees must be in good standing. Employees who are on a performance improvement plan or received formal written warnings due to performance are not eligible.

  • Complete, sign, and submit Reimbursement Form along with certification documentation and payment receipt by August 1st, 2025

*Room, board, and/or travel expenses associated with the training are not eligible.

**Re-certifications are not eligible for the bonus.

***If a program is cancelled by the Y after the start of the season, or a staff member is unable to work due to a confirmed case of COVID-19, those missed days will still count towards their qualification.

The bonus will be administered at the conclusion of the summer 2025 season using the same administration process and timeline defined for seasonal stay bonuses. The Y reserves the right to modify the incentive based on feedback and usage.
