Program Positions
Cabin Counselor
Minimum age 18
Cabin Counselors live in a cabin with another staff member and up to 12 campers. Cabin Counselors are responsible for the safety, basic care, and daily needs of the campers in their cabin group for 1 week sessions over a 10 session summer. In addition, counselors facilitate and supervise daily activities for campers of all ages.
Aquatics Program Counselor
Minimum age 18
Aquatics Program Counselors facilitate and supervise our waterfront activities during the Camp Colman summer program. These activities include boating, dock jumps, pool parties, open recreation, swim lessons, polar bear swims, and more. Ensures the supervision and safety of campers at all times.
Ropes Program Counselor
Minimum age 18
Ropes Program Counselors facilitate and supervise our ropes activities during the Camp Colman summer program. These activities include instructing new participants at different developmental statuses, ensuring safety at all times, maintaining and inventorying supplies, and more. Ensures the supervision and safety of campers at all times.
Media Coordinator
Minimum age 18
The media coordinator works to photograph and record the day to day life of Camp Colman through pictures and/or video, posts pictures and videos on various media sites, and creates weekly slideshows.
Arts and Crafts Program Counselor
Minimum age 18
Arts and Crafts Program Counselors facilitate and supervise our arts and crafts activities during the Camp Colman summer program. These activities include instructing new participants at different developmental statuses, planning and facilitating different craft programs, ensuring safety at all times, maintaining and inventorying supplies, and more. Ensures the supervision and safety of campers at all times.
Archery Program Counselor
Minimum Age 18
Archery Program Counselors facilitate and supervise our archery activities during the Camp Colman summer program. These activities include instructing new participants at different developmental statuses, always ensuring safety, maintaining and inventorying supplies, and more. Ensures the supervision and safety of campers at all times.
Leadership Staff Positions
Outdoor Education
Assistant Program Director
Minimum age 21
The Assistant Program Director provides leadership across all of camp’s summer programs. Assistant Director responsibilities include coaching and supervising staff, working with campers, managing the day-to-day operations of camp, and assisting in problem solving as unique and challenging situations arise. Previous experience working with large groups or managing others in a professional setting is required.
Village Leader
Minimum age 18
Village Leaders provide direct supervision and overall support/supervision of a specific group of staff and campers in summer resident camp. Assists with planning and implementation of larger camp activities and events. Ensures the supervision and safety of campers at all times.
Camp Inclusion Specialist
Minimum age 21
The Camp Inclusion Specialist provide support to campers and staff, to help campers have a fun and successful time at camp. Basic job functions include documenting incidents and trends in the camp community, reaching out to parents, guardians or case workers and sharing insight with staff to create the most successful camp experience for campers, seeking out ways to help campers be successful in their cabin group and in the camp community.
*Graduate education or significant work experience, either completed or in process, in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or related fields is required. Life experience is valued as much as educational background and lack of education should not be a barrier to joining our community.
Challenge Course Director
Minimum age 21
Provides direct supervision to overall operation of adventure program and challenge course counselors and activities. Ensures the supervision and safety of campers at all times. Maintains equipment shed and usage logs.
Waterfront Director
Minimum Age 21
Provides direct supervision and oversight of all activities at the waterfront during the summer camp program. Duties include scheduling lifeguards, oversight of lifeguard counselors, equipment inspections, and more.
Camp Nurse
Minimum age 21
The Camp Nurse oversees the health and safety of camp’s staff and campers. The Nurse is responsible for the Health Center and works closely with our team of volunteer medical staff. The Nurse supervises a small team of Health Aides, oversees the dispensing of camper and staff medications and monitors the overall health and wellbeing of the entire camp community. Applicants with nursing or healthcare experience preferred.
** Holds current EMT, LPN, RN, or MD in WA state **
Health and Wellness Aide
Minimum age 18
Health Aides work closely with the Health Care Manager/Camp Nurse to support the health and safety of our campers. Basic job functions include assisting in the management of the Health Center and maintaining the health of campers and staff. Health Aides are supervised by the Camp Nurse. Nursing or pre-nursing students preferred.
Outdoor Environmental Education Instructor
Minimum age 18
Outdoor Environmental Education Instructors provide outdoor environmental education, challenge course and waterfront programs, and weekend recreation programs for participants attending YMCA Camp Colman including school groups, rental groups, and YMCA weekend family camps. Room, board, and laundry at no cost is provided for the duration of employment on site at Camp Colman.
